Hey Friend!
I’m finally coming up for air from Sew Expo & OSQE—two expos within a week was a lot!!! But in a good way—for the most part.
Sew Expo 2025
Was a lot. I had already written this email out and I was going to share about how the negative feedback I’d received really hurt and bothered me because there were things that were out of my hands but it’s in the past now. I’m moving forward. Getting out there is a lot of work, expensive and taxing. I don’t think that the organizers get how hard and expensive this is and I don’t think they have the backs of the teachers or vendors and I don’t love this.
OSQE (Original Sewing & Quilting Expo)
This year I got a chance to hang out with my BERNINA and bernette dealer Atlanta Sewing Center. I was doing demos with the bernette b37 (fantastic machine). We made bookmarks which was so fun because this was one of the first projects that I taught my son to make on his bernette 05. I was there on Thursday and Friday and it was so good to see so many faces that I had taught at my studio! I wish I could have been there on Saturday too but I was teaching and having a grand old time at TopstitchAtl.
Next year, my goal is to be teaching here. I didn’t think there was space for garment sewists but I’m wrong! I just need to make sure that I get my classes together to submit them. I’m also going to try and do this with other expos that are sewing related—if there’s one by you tell me!
Sew And Tell Virtual Conference
Which leads me to this FREE conference that I’m inviting you to!!! Last week I recorded my session with the conference organizer and I’m so excited for what this conference has to offer! Not only am I a featured speaker, so is Julian (who is currently galavanting around Switzerland on a top secret project). I’m really excited for this entire lineup!
I’m really interested to know… do you feel sewing expos are worth it? Can’t wait to read the responses!
I am SOOOO sorry SewExpo was not kind to you this year. As a previous attendee I am hurt to know that they did not step up for you, as l have always enjoyed the event. One of the things l find about events like this, other than the phenomenal teachers, such as you, is that l can find fabric and supplies that l do not run into in my hometown. We have a very limited assortment here on the other side of Washington State and getting smaller all the time. I have learned tips, tricks, created phenomenal garments and enhanced my knowledge base with SewExpo and the like. It just wasn't in the cards for me this year. May your next event be supportive, stylish and amazing!
I still love expos and conferences. I’m aiming to go to H&H this year because of my own semi top-secret plans and desires to make my fiber work my primary career.
However, not all expos and conferences are created equal and I would absolutely not teach or vend at any that disrespect you as a person and that don’t grant a good return on investment.
Also, I would totally come to one you put together. Maybe a half day with Frocktails as our main gala in the future? I could also roll up with some classes to fill up and boost up your efforts!
